Porcelain Veneers

Dental Veneers Houston Texas

Porcelain Veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-like ceramic material, which are bonded to the front of the teeth.

Dental Veneers are used to cover chipped or discolored teeth. They can also be used to correct the shape or length of teeth. Dental veneers are an easy solution to close the gaps between teeth.

When Porcelain Veneers Are Recommended

Porcelain veneers are routinely used to fix:

  • Teeth that are discolored – stained from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride, root canal treatment, discoloration from fillings.
  • Chipped, cracked or broken teeth.
  • Gaps between teeth - closing the spaces in between teeth.
  • Teeth that are worn down.
  • Uneven, misaligned, or irregularly shaped teeth.

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

  • Veneers may solve the majority of cosmetic dental issues, regardless of the cause of unattractive teeth. Some of the benefits of dental veneers are:
  • Natural in Appearance
  • Well Tolerated by Gum Tissue
  • Stain Resistant
  • Whiten Teeth
  • Protect Surface of Damaged Teeth
  • Conservative Approach – less invasive than crowns or implants

Procedure for Porcelain Veneers

The first step in determining if you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers is to come for a complementary consultation with Dr. Anderson in our Houston dental office. Dr. Anderson will evaluate your situation and suggest the best product to meet your needs. Then in one or two visits, the dental veneers are made and applied, creating a spectacular smile. Whether you need a single tooth or many teeth, the porcelain veneer process can be completed relatively quickly.

Traditional Dental Veneers

Some types of dental veneers require that the natural tooth be ‘prepared’. The tooth is prepared by removing a small amount of enamel from the tooth front. Dr. Anderson may recommend a mild anesthetic to help the patient remain comfortable during the reshaping process. Then the doctor will make an impression, or model, of your tooth. This model is used to make a custom-fit porcelain veneer, which is then bonded to the front of your natural tooth.

Prepless Veneers

Unlike traditional dental veneers, prepless veneers do not require removing any tooth enamel. You can dramatically change your smile, often even without any anesthetic. Applying prepless veneers is a reversible process—if the veneers are removed, your natural teeth are still the same.

Lumineers Prepless Veneers

Lumineers offer a painless way to a beautiful smile. They are applied to your teeth without any grinding or shaving. Lumineers are as thin as a contact lens, and are made of patented Cerinate porcelain. Lumineers can also be applied to existing dental crowns or bridgework without having to replace them. Clinical studies prove that Lumineers can last over 20 years. As the natural tooth structure is still intact, the Lumineers prepless veneers process is completely reversible.

How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?

Depending on the specific veneer product that you choose, porcelain veneers can last 5-20 years. The success of porcelain veneers improves with good oral hygiene, including brushing, flossing, and regular dental exams. If you grind your teeth while sleeping, Dr. Anderson may recommend a night-time mouth guard. It is recommended that you avoid biting into hard things, like pencils or ice, because the thin veneer may chip, break or peel. If the veneer is cracked or broken, it will need to be replaced.
