You Won't Miss The Metal With Invisible Braces In Houston

Hello! Welcome to my Houston cosmetic dentistry blog. Do you have crooked teeth? Do you wish you would have had braces as a kid, but feel it is too late now? Maybe you feel self-conscious about smiling with a mouth full of metal. I have good news for you: at Willowbrook Dental Care, we offer invisible braces.

The main advantage of invisible braces is that it is nearly impossible to see them while they are being worn, but the results are definitely noticeable!

Don’t let the absence of metal fool you. The clear removable invisalign aligners effectively correct the alignment and crowding problems that can affect the overall health of your teeth.

My name is Dr. J. Scott Anderson of Willowbrook Dental Care. My staff and I want you to feel great about your smile. In addition to invisible braces, we also offer dental restorations, teeth whitening, and porcelain veneers. Did you know that veneers can correct some alignment problems?

Please call my Houston office today at (281) 571-3760 to schedule an orthodontic consultation. Your oral health is important, so make sure you are getting the regular exams and cleanings you deserve. Here at Willowbrook Dental Care, we provide the highest possible standard of dental care.

Smile Perfection in Houston

January 27th, 2012

Houston low cost teeth whitening

The most difficult part of attaining perfection is finding something to do for an encore. -Author Unknown

We are perfectionists at Willowbrook Dental Care where we create perfect smiles for our Houston area cosmetic dental and smile makeover patients.

Here are some of the cosmetic dental procedures we use in smile makeovers at Willowbrook Dental Care in Houston.

Implant Dentistry
Dental implants are the ultimate tooth restoration available in Houston or anywhere else, for that matter. A tooth implant consists of a metal post that is inserted into your jawbone. The post replaces the root of the missing tooth.

After a few months, it meshes with your jawbone to provide the strength and integrity of a natural tooth. A base and natural-looking crown is permanently attached to the post. For most Houston patients with missing teeth, it is the preferred restoration. Implants can also be used to attach dentures and partial dentures for no-slip implant/denture combos.

Crowns
A mainstay of Houston cosmetic dentistry, dental crowns are more beautiful than ever. New fabrication technologies and materials have improved the aesthetics and strength of this restorative option.

Porcelain Veneers
A veneer is a more conservative treatment than a full crown. This is a good choice for Houston patients whose teeth are structurally sound but have unsightly flaws such as discoloration, chips, cracks, or imperfect shape. Are you one of the many Houston teens or adults with dark tetracycline stains? Call us today at (281) 571-3760 to say goodbye to tetracycline stains!

Inlays/Onlays
Inlays and onlays (indirect fillings) are designed and fabricated using dental CAD/CAM software. These fillings are strong, attractive, and precisely fitted to the cavity.

Tooth Whitening
Teeth bleaching is the crowning touch for a perfect smile. (It’s the only thing you need if you are a fortunate Houston man or woman with perfectly-shaped and aligned teeth.) No one has to live with dull or stained teeth. Call us today for a teeth whitening consultation at our Houston office.

The Willowbrook Dental Care Guide To Dental X-Rays

January 20th, 2012

The Willowbrook Dental Care Guide To Dental X-Rays

Don’t know a periapical from a bitewing? Today’s Houston cosmetic dental blog takes a look at dental x-rays.

Panoramic
If you have ever stood in a huge camera apparatus and struggled to stay motionless while an automated camera made one slow pass around your head, then you have had a panoramic x-ray taken of your mouth. These pictures help dentists see everything in one image: the complete upper and lower jaw. These are often taken during a patient’s first visit to Willowbrook Dental Care. They are also very helpful for evaluating jaw injuries and seeing emerging teeth in children.

Bitewing
Bitewing x-rays help sedation dentist Dr. Anderson see what’s going on between teeth–something that is impossible with a visual exam. They also help your dentist evaluate the jaw bone.

Periapical
These are similar to bite wings but they can get a clearer picture of the tooth roots and bone. These are important for implant dentistry. They are also often used to help diagnose absences in the root of a tooth.

Full-Mouth Series
This is a combination of periapical and bitewing x-rays that gives a comprehensive picture of all the teeth and surrounding bone structure.

If you are a patient of Willowbrook Dental Care and are worried about the safety of dental x-rays, we invite you to discuss your concerns with our technically advanced and friendly staff. We can explain all the precautions that we take to reduce radiation exposure and answer any questions you may have.

If you are pregnant and need a dental x-ray at Willowbrook Dental Care, it is important to let Dr. J. Scott Anderson know this before x-rays are taken. X-rays are not necessarily dangerous for pregnant women, but they are often postponed until after delivery as a precaution. If you are pregnant but have a severe dental problem, call our office right away. We can be reached at (281) 571-3760.

We hope you have learned a little bit about dental x-rays, one of Dr. J. Scott Anderson’s indispensable tools in providing unsurpassed dental care in Houston. We also offer a wide array of dental procedures including porcelain veneers, invisible braces, teeth whitening and more. Check back often for more information about dentistry at Willowbrook Dental Care.

Have Your Dessert, Houston

January 6th, 2012

Have Your Dessert Houston

Your Houston cosmetic dentist knows that it’s too much to ask that you never indulge in sugary treats, but they will tell you that eating sweets at certain times is better for your teeth than others. For instance, when you eat a full meal, your saliva production increases. This helps to rinse food particles from your mouth as well as neutralize the acids that cause plaque.

This is great news for dessert lovers in the Houston area because it means that sweets consumed after meals have a lower risk to your teeth because your mouth is already in optimum cleansing mode.

Houston dentists agree that sweets after meals are preferable to sweets eaten between meals as snacks.

Also remember that what sweets you eat can be as important as when you eat them. Houston dentists are constantly reminding their dental patients that sticky candies stay on your teeth for a long time, even when your saliva is flowing. And hard candies that you suck for an extended time give bacteria a perfect environment to create enamel-weakening acids.

My name is Dr. J. Scott Anderson, and I am a cosmetic and sedation dentist in Houston. My practice is Willowbrook Dental Care located at 17350 State Highway 249, Ste 200 in Houston.

Our technically advanced and friendly staff is here to help you have the healthiest and most beautiful smile possible. We provide general and cosmetic dentistry procedures such as tooth whitening, veneers, clear braces, inlays and onlays.

We are currently accepting new patients, call today to book an appointment!

Willowbrook Dental Care Guide To Healthy Tooth Enamel

December 30th, 2011

Willowbrook Dental Care Guide To Healthy Tooth Enamel

Here at Willowbrook Dental Care, we want your teeth to last a lifetime! Tooth enamel is one of the hardest parts of the body, but it is non-renewable so it is important not to not neglect or abuse our teeth. Daily teeth and gum care is the best way to protect tooth enamel.

Even though every Houston drug store carries hard bristle brushes, we recommend brushing with a soft brush after every meal to gently brush away acid. Scrub too hard, and you can erode enamel. It is ideal to brush immediately after eating, but brushing within 60 minutes of a meal has benefits. The quicker you remove food from your teeth, the better it is for your enamel.

Flossing regularly is also important to keep gums healthy. Whether the food is on tooth surfaces, or hidden in between, it is not doing your enamel any good.

Cosmetic dentist Dr. J. Scott Anderson recommends a checkup and thorough cleaning every six months. Our skilled hygienists remove tartar, a substance that attracts plaque to the surface of the teeth and can weaken the teeth’s structures. Regular checkups prevent problems and save you money on expensive restorations down the road.

Remember: don’t use your teeth for opening packages! Keep scissors and bottle openers handy. At Willowbrook Dental Care, we see damaged teeth and dental work as a result of patients using their teeth as tools. Biting down on something too hard, like ice or hard candy can also damage enamel.

Attention Houston athletes: be sure to use a mouthguard for team, contact, and recreational sports.

Teeth grinding is also a common dental threat. Be careful not to grind teeth, this can not only wear away enamel but also pave ways for cavities to get in. If you grind your teeth while you are sleeping, make an appointment to be fitted for a night guard. Your enamel will thank you.

Lastly, remember: drink water. Coffee, sports drinks, soda, wine, and tea all contain a lot of acid or sugar, and in some cases both. Cut back, or at least use a straw. These drinks cause a lot of tooth decay for non-water drinkers in Houston.

We hope you find these Willowbrook Dental Care tips helpful. For more information on dental care, or to schedule an appointment, contact our Houston cosmetic, implant and sedation dentistry office today at (281) 571-3760! If your teeth have been damaged, we offer a variety of cosmetic and restorative dental procedures including dental crowns, implants, clear braces, porcelain veneers and teeth whitening.

Porcelain Veneers

December 16th, 2011

Porcelain Veneers With porcelain veneers, you can revamp your smile without significant restorative dental work.

Porcelain veneers are glass-like, wafer-thin covers that are attached to the front of your teeth. Porcelain has been used in Houston cosmetic dentistry for many years because no other restorative material is such an excellent match for natural tooth enamel. Porcelain is translucent and can be matched to the color of any tooth. It is stronger than enamel and resists stains. Dental ceramists who fabricate porcelain veneers are both artists and technicians. They create beautiful paper-thin wafers that adhere to teeth, correcting chips and stains. Porcelain veneers can also straighten crooked teeth for patients who don’t need orthodontic work like clear braces.

Houston patients who receive prepless veneers appreciate the less-invasive process of enhancing their smile. Newer techniques require no removal of healthy tooth enamel.

We would be happy to show you what dental veneers can do for your smile.

Willowbrook Dental Care is located at 17350 State Highway 249, Ste 200 in Houston. We provide skilled dental care for patients in the greater Houston area. Our phone number is (281) 571-3760. Keeping Dental Patients Comfortable In Cypress TX

December 9th, 2011

Pain isn’t fun. Your Cypress TX dentist knows this, and that is why the dental team at Willowbrook Dental Care have made patient comfort a top priority. In conjunction with creating a relaxing environment, your dentist has various medications that can reduce and even eliminate pain associated with different dental procedures to give you a more enjoyable experience.

Some of the most common pain-relieving medications used in Cypress TX cosmetic dental offices and around the country are topical anesthetics. These are swabbed directly onto mouth tissue so they only numb the very surface layers. Topical anesthetics can reduce the pain of mouth sores, or they can be applied to prepare the mouth for an injection.

Local anesthetics are injected into mouth tissue (usually the gums) to block the nerve sensations to specific areas of the mouth. Cypress TX dentists numb the mouth in this way before filling cavities, treating gum disease, or before certain cosmetic dentistry procedures.

More involved dental procedures may necessitate the need for nitrous oxide or even general anesthesia. Ask us about sedation dentistry and oral conscious sedation.

It is very common for your dentist to recommend an over the counter analgesic to relieve pain after a dental visit. These medications include aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen.

Because your Cypress TX cosmetic dentist will most likely use a pain reliever during the dental visit or prescribe something for you to take after the treatment, make sure you jot down a complete list of medications you are taking, including herbal supplements, before each appointment.

I’m Dr. J. Scott Anderson and I want Cypress TX residents to be informed about their dental care, especially as it pertains to pain relief during dental treatment. If you are in the Cypress TX area and are looking for quality dental care, please contact my office today at (281) 571-3760. Our comfortable staff would be happy to talk to you about sedation dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, and the other services we offer.

Preventative Maintenance For Your Irreplaceable Smile In Houston

December 2nd, 2011

Preventative Maintenance For Your Irreplaceable Smile In Houston

Hi, I’m Dr. J. Scott Anderson of Willowbrook Dental Care. If you are one of my existing patients, welcome back. If this is your first visit, I appreciate you stopping by.

My technically advanced and friendly team and I love taking care of our Houston area patients.

Today’s article is for Houston area people who are overdue for a cleaning and exam.

During dental deep cleanings, our hygienists thoroughly remove the plaque and tartar above and below the gumline. By scaling and planing, they remove areas where bacteria can easily multiply. If you are due for a cleaning, call us today at (281) 571-3760  to schedule.

After your teeth have been cleaned, I perform a thorough examination. I check for overall tooth and gum health, the presence of cavities, gum pocket depth, bite issues, and signs of oral cancer.

Some Houston people mistakenly believe that they can skip cosmetic dental visits if they don’t notice anything out of the ordinary. This attitude is risky. Many dental problems advance silently. When the patient experiences pain, much damage has been done. Gum disease, especially, often progresses unnoticed. If you are a Houston area resident who is skipping dental visits because of dental phobia, ask us about sedation dentistry.

If you don’t have dental insurance, ask us about dental financing options. It costs far less to prevent problems than to treat them after they have become severe.

If you perform regular auto maintenance, you understand the wisdom of prevention. Don’t you value your smile far more than your car? Call Willowbrook Dental Care today to schedule preventative maintenance for your irreplaceable smile. If you are in need of Houston cosmetic dentistry, we offer a variety of procedures including porcelain veneers, clear braces, crowns and dental implants.
